Prince Edward Island Tourism Region : Points East Coastal Drive
Description From Owner:
- The Mi'kmaq called it Pesigitk, 'entering at right angles, 'or 'forks of a river. In 1730 it is shown on a land plan as Rivière de Pigiguit, on another in 1751 as Rivière de Pegedieg and on yet another the following year, Rivière de Peugiguit.
- In 1765 Samuel Holland named it Hill River for Wills Hill (1718-93), Earl of Hillsborough. The name eventually returned to something approximating the Mi'kmaq name.
- Pisquid Pond: The Mi'kmaq called it Poogoosumkekcoospen, 'clam beach lake.'
