The point extends into Charlottetown Harbour on the N side of West River. The Mi'kmaq called it Okoonaleet, 'covered in patches as though with snow.'
By 1734 it was named Pointe Catalogne, 'Catalonia Point.' Later named Whites Point for David White who was resident here in 1880.
