Description From Owner:
  • The river flows N into Egmont Bay and was named in 1765 by Samuel Holland for Sir Frederick Haldimand (1719-91), Governor General of Canada 1778-86.
  • The river may also have been named for Haldimand's nephew Peter Frederick Haldimand (1741-65) who assisted Holland as a surveyor and who drowned that year while 'sounding' at Louisbourg.
