Prince Edward Island Tourism Region : Points East Coastal Drive
Description From Owner:
- Samuel Holland named the cove in 1765 for Bamber Gascoyne (1725-1791), Lord Commissioner of Trade and Plantations 1763-79.
- Over time the spelling changed from Gascoyne to Gascoigne in the mistaken belief the name had been for someone from Gascony in France who would have been called a Gascoigne.
- Earlier names were Gascoyne Cove and Shallow Cove.
