- The cape extends into Northumberland Strait E of Murray River, just off Hwy. 18. The Mi'kmaq called it Kwesowaakeskwodek, “end of the island cape”.
- On a 1750 map it is shown as Cap dauphin and on a 1762 map as Petite cap à l'Ours 'Little Cape of Bears,' and on a 1768 map as St. Andrews Point.
- There's a museum inside the four-storey 1881 Cape Bear Lighthouse with artifacts from the local community and a replica of the Cape Bear Marconi Station believed to be the first Canadian land station to receive distress calls from the Titanic.
- The craft shop and picnic area are open mid-June to mid- Sept.
