- Fox was a minor British politician once described as 'the most unpopular of contemporary statesmen.'
- For a time the place was known as Cross Roads or The Cross because two trails intersected here.
- In 1862 residents met in the Temperance Hall to choose a more suitable name and chose Alberton for Prince Albert Edward (1841-1910), later King Edward VII who had visited two years previously.
- Alberton was a major centre for the fox breeding industry and a National Historic Site monument commemorates the importance of the industry to Prince County.
- Alberton Museum and Genealogy Centre is at 457 Church Street in the 1878 former courthouse and jail.
- Displays chronicle the early fishing and farming industries, military history and artifacts recall the silver fox industry, and early items on fox farming
