Description From Owner:
- 3 mi NW of Charlottetown on W side of North River. School York River until c1864 when it was changed to North River. P.O. 1872-1969.
- North River: Flows S into Charlottetown Harbour. Named by Samuel Holland 1765 Yorke River for John Yorke (1728-1769) Lord Commissioner of Plantations then.
- In 1800s both York River and North River were used with North River dominating toward the end of the century, although official maps continued to show Yorke River until the mid twentieth century.
- Called Rivière du Nord by the French. Map 1750 Port ou Riviere de la joie; in Micmac Nemtagag, 'running straight up” (Pacifique 1934).
