- Named for the Scottish birthplace of Flora Macdonald (1722-1790) which was in South Uist in the Hebrides. She assisted Prince Charles Edward Stuart in his escape to France after his defeat at the 1746 Battle of Culloden.
- He was later imprisoned in the Tower of London but released the following year. She married Allan MacDonald and they emigrated to North Carolina and then Nova Scotia.
- They returned to Scotland in 1779. On an 1830 land plan this place is shown as Milton Station and the school district was called Lower Milton.
