- 2 mi N of Crapaud in Lot 29. School district before 1880 was Upper Westmoreland. P.O. Upper Westmoreland 1891-1914.
- Westmoreland River: The river flows into Northumberland Strait at Victoria Harbour. Named for the Countess of Westmorland, the mother of Lady Fane who owned property here which she visited in 1840.
- Samuel Holland had named the place Brockelbys in 1765 for Richard Brockles (1722-97), a physician. Earlier the French had called the place rivière aux Crapaux, 'Crapaud River.'
- Crapaud is French for toad but Crapaud de mer is the name of a particularly ugly fish with poisonous spines found in abundance in the St. Lawrence River and its Gulf. Myoxocephalus scorpius is also called Scorpionfish or Shorthorn Sculpin.
