3 mi E of Borden in Lot 28. Bells Point in Cape Traverse was used by the French as the PEI terminus for crossing to the mainland.
Holland 1765 and later maps applied the name Cape Traverse to Bells Point. P.O. Cape Traverse c1841-1892 and 1905-1930; also P.O. Lansdowne Hotel 1888-1905. Cape Traverse Cove and Cape Traverse Landing are adjacent features.
The name derives from the point being the closest part of the Island to the mainland. In the community of Cape Traverse is a National Historic Monument commemorating the iceboat service that was the only winter link to the mainland from 1827-1917.
Nearby are Cape Traverse Cove, Cape Traverse Landing and Cape Traverse River. The river flows S into Northumberland Strait at Amherst Cove.
