5 mi SE of Summerside in Lot 26. PO from 1827. Noted in JHA 1806. Meacham 1880 has Centreville with Bedeque P.O. Formerly called Hooper's Corner.
The name derives from the Mi'kmaq Petekook, a word later influenced by French spelling and descriptive of Bedeque Harbour when approached from the E. It is shown as Bedecque on a 1752 map and in 1841 Adm. Bayfield shortened it to Bedec.
From the mid-1880s the accepted spelling has been Bedeque.
