Prince Edward Island Tourism Region : Red Sands Shore
Description From Owner:
- In Bedeque Bay. De la Roque 1752 Isle de Bedec; Holland 1765, Chart 1849, Wright and Cundall 1874, Meacham 1880, and Department of Interior 1914 Indian Island.
- Wyld 1845 Dunk 1. Formerly called Flynn's Island for an eccentric hermit who lived on it; formerly known as Pope's Island for J. C. Pope who owned it before Holman.
- It finally became Holman's Island for James Ludlow Holman (1827-1877) a Summerside merchant who purchased it from Pope and built the 'magnificent' Island Park Hotel.
- The short tourist season, an infestation of mosquitoes and Holman's sudden death soon after the opening, led to the hotel's collapse.
