3212 EAST POINT RD |
Prince Edward Island Tourism Region : Points East Coastal Drive
Description From Owner:
- 7 mi NE of Souris in Lot 46. About 1840 a resident called Mr. Haney of nearby Souris Line Road was supported by neighbours against oppression by his landlord.
- The government sent soldiers to quell the disturbances. Meanwhile the rebels hid out east of the road in the area of present Glencorradale.
- The event recalled the time that Prince Charles hid out at Glen Caradal on Isle of Skye after his defeat at Culloden, so the name Glencorradale was chosen for the new settlement c1846 by settlers from Inverness, Scotland.
- This area had been settled by Scots from the Isle of Skye and after the 1846 incident they named their community for the prince's hiding place on the Isle of Skye, though their spelling wasn't quite accurate.
- In JHA 1856. Meacham 1880 has West Baltic for the school. P.O. c1884-1914.
