Prince Edward Island Tourism Region : Points East Coastal Drive
Description From Owner:
- One of Murray Islands in Murray Harbour. Acquired by William and Francis Herring c1847 when the Indians did not pay taxes on it and other Murray Islands.
- Their father, William Herring, came from Cornwall, England, 1828. Douglas 1925 has Herring and also says it is known as Reynolds Island, which is the next island north.
- More recently, Herring and Thomas Islands, which are linked by a sand bar, were owned by Lt.-Col. Patrick Wootton of Stratford, PEI.
- He operated youth camps on the islands and deeded Thomas Island to the Prince Edward Island Nature Trust.
