Description From Owner:
- 1 mi N of Montague, Lot 52. P.O. 1898-1914.
- The community, Brudenell River and Brudenell Point were all named by Samuel Holland in honour of George Brudenell (1712-90), Earl of Cardigan.
- In 1731, Jean-Pierre de Roma (1715-90) and three associates, were granted all the land drained by the Brudenell, Cardigan and Montague rivers. They founded a settlement known as Trois-Rivières (Three Rivers) and sometimes La Romanie, on Point Brudenell.
- The settlement was substantial with two piers, store houses, a forge, bakery and houses. Trails were blazed from here to Saint-Pierre (Saint Peters), Port-la-Joie (Fort Amherst) and Rivière des Sturgeons (Sturgeon River).
- In 1745 the settlement was destroyed by a force of New England invaders.
