Ninety per cent of the winery's sales are generated on the Island, but vintner John Rossignol keeps bringing home awards from various wine competitions so it won't be long before his product starts expanding across Canada.
It is already sold in Alberta. Rossignol moved from Ontario in 1990 to launch the Island's first winery and now offers 16 varieties including eight fruit wines and one liqueur.
The fruit wines include apple, maple, wild blueberry, strawberry, raspberry, strawberry- rhubarb, blackberry, cranberry and wild rose, all ingredients picked on the Island.
Rossignol is PEI's only winery, but another Ontarian recently moved to the Island to open a winery.
Rossignol Winery is at Little Sands on Northumberland Strait and Hwy. 4, 9 km E of the Woods Islands Ferry. Tours available
