Description From Owner:
- 9 mi SW of Montague in Lots 57 and 58. Possibly named for Iona, Scotland, although the section is historically Irish.
- Schools were Montague Road East and Montague Road West. P.O. Montague Cross 1867-1903; P.O. lona 1903-1967. lona: School district 1869 in Lot 53 at present Cardross.
- Not formerly known as Montague West as noted by Douglas 1925.
- This area was settled by Irish immigrants who chose the name for the small island off the coast of Scotland.
- This was where St. Columba sailed in 563 to introduce Christianity to the Scots.His mission was successful and Iona remains a centre of Celtic Christianity.
- In 1907 the CN railway station here on the Prince Edward Island Railway was named Fodhla after the poetic name for Ireland.
