9 mi SW of Montague in Lots 57 and 58. Possibly named for Iona, Scotland, although the section is historically Irish.
Schools were Montague Road East and Montague Road West. P.O. Montague Cross 1867-1903; P.O. lona 1903-1967. lona: School district 1869 in Lot 53 at present Cardross.
Not formerly known as Montague West as noted by Douglas 1925.
This area was settled by Irish immigrants who chose the name for the small island off the coast of Scotland.
This was where St. Columba sailed in 563 to introduce Christianity to the Scots.His mission was successful and Iona remains a centre of Celtic Christianity.
In 1907 the CN railway station here on the Prince Edward Island Railway was named Fodhla after the poetic name for Ireland.
