Description From Owner:
  • 15 mi SE of Charlottetown in Lot 57. P.O. c1880-1954.
  • The bay is an extension of Hillsborough Bay into which Orwell River flows.
  • The French called it Grande Anse, 'Big Cove, 'and the river, Rivière de la Grande Ascension, 'River of the Great Ascension,' but Samuel Holland renamed it in 1765 for Francis, Lord Orwell, Lord Commissioner of Trade and Plantations 1762-1768.
  • Orwell Corner Historic Village, one of the Island's seven Museum and Heritage Sites is nearby.
  • It's a living rural Island village and visitors are welcome from mid-May to mid-October.
  • The village is in a time warp of the 1890s when folks made their own candles, ice cream and horseshoes and those are some of the activities carried out here and explained by costumed guides.
  • It's a working farm with live animals and there's a general store, one-room school house, blacksmith shop, agricultural museum and general store and visitors can picnic or enjoy goodies from the tea room.
  • On Wednesday evenings in July and August there are ceilidhs. The village is just off the TCH between Charlottetown and the Nova Scotia ferry at 7 Old Uigg Road, Orwell.
