- Extends into Orwell Bay, Lot 50. Possibly named for a French settler. De la Roque 1752 noted that Jean Chesnay (Chainay) was at Savage Harbour for 25 years. W. S. N.
- Crane reported in 1924 '... my father (said] the place was called after a man named Chaney, whom he had heard tell of as the builder of a vessel near that place.The man referred to must have been an old French settler”.
- According to Douglas 1925 an undated map, but before 1790, locates a family by the name of China south of the village of Vernon River.
- JHA 1806 ChineyPoint. In Micmac Abadomkeak, “sandy shore winding and turning'. China Creek is beside the point.
