Prince Edward Island Tourism Region : Points East Coastal Drive
Description From Owner:
- 8 mi NE of Charlottetown in Lot 35. Named by Capt. John Macdonald 1772 for one of the seven divisions of his PEI estates. Named for Glenfinnan, Inverness, Scotland. In JHA 1844. P.O. 1877-1913.
- His father, Alexander, was a supporter of Prince Charles Edward Stuart. Glenfinnan at the head of Loch Shiel, Scotland, was where the Prince raised his standard in 1745.
- Glenfinnan Lake: In Queens C. Earlier names were Oval Lake, Glenfinnan Pond and O'Connells Pond for Morris and James O'Connell.
- Glenfinnan River: The river flows N into the Hillsborough River. During the French period it was called rivière du Moulin à Scie, 'Sawmill River. Later the name was Sherrys Creek.
