- Village incorporated 1956, 2 mi NW of Summerside. Said to be named for Eleanor Sanksey, Harry Compton's housekeeper. Compton's nephew, Hubert, claimed it was for Compton's daughter, but it would appear that her name was Charlotte.
- It has also been noted that the place honours Queen Eleanor, wife of Richard the Lion Hearted. P.O. c1833-1962. County seat of Prince County 1833-1876.
