- 5 mi N of Tyne Valley in Lots 11 and 12. School district 1878. P.O. 1896-1914.
- The residence of J. F. W. Des Barres (1722-1824) in Halifax was Poplar Grove. Des Barres was Lieutenant Governor of PEI from 1804 to 1813.
- Portage Lake is said to be bottomless and the Mi'kmaq called it Meskekumpudas, 'deep pond.'
- The river flows N into Trout River, making this one of the most narrow points between Gulf and Strait waters, Egmont Bay to Cascumpec Bay. The land portage is 3.5 km (2.2 miles). The Mi'kmaq called this place Oonigun, 'portage.'
