Description From Owner:
- 2 mi N of Tyne Valley in Lot 12. Noted in the Palladium of Charlottetown, 1845.
- This place name has been traced back to a manor house owned by Scottish hero Sir William Wallace (1270-1305). There is a monument to him at Abbey Craig near Stirling, Scotland, scene of his defeat of the English in 1297.
- Wallace was later captured by the English, tried and convicted in 1305 and executed the following day. His house stood at Elderslie or Wellerslie in Roxburgshire.
- The PEI Shellfish Museum at 156 Bideford Road uses artifacts and pictures to trace the history and development of the famous Malpeque oyster industry. Open mid-June to mid-Sept.
- P.O. Lot 12 1855-1912; P.O. Ellerslie Station 1912-1924; P.O. Ellerslie from 1924. Ellerslie Brook flows NE into Smelt Creek.
