- 4 mi NW of North Rustico in Lot 23. Named by William Winter c1772, probably for Field Marshal Lord Frederick Cavendish (1729-1803). P.O. 1833-1913; P.O. Green Gables from 1953.
- In her famous book, Anne of Green Gables, author Lucy Maud Montgomery described Cavendish in 1917 as: 'a narrow farming settlement fronting on the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
- It is about three miles long and one wide. The shore is very beautiful; part of it is rock where the rugged red cliffs rise steeply from boulder-strewn coves.'
- Part of Cavendish Beach is a long, gleaming sand shore, divided from the fields and ponds behind a row of rounded sand dunes, covered by coarse grass.
- Around 1772 army officer William Winter who had been granted a lot that included Cavendish, by Gov. Walter Patterson (1735-98), named his residence in honour of his patron, Field Marshal Lord Frederick Cavendish (1729-1803).
- There are a number of Anne of Green Gables related attractions here. At Avonlea - Village of Anne of Green Gables on Route 6, visitors can go back in time 100 years and participate in:
- kitchen parties, horse and wagon rides, spoons or dance lessons, oyster shucking, or pig races. Open mid-June-Sept. 30.
- Green Gables, Lucy Maud Montgomery's Cavendish National Historic Site on Route 6 W of Route 13 is the L. M: Montgomery Cavendish National Historic Site.
- Parks Canada manages the original home where the author frequently visited relatives. There are films, displays, the Butter Churn Café and a gift shop. Open daily in summer season.
- Site of Lucy Maud Montgomery's Cavendish Home at 8521 Cavendish Road is a National Historic Site.
- This was Lucy's home from 1876-1911 where she was raised by her grandparents, Alexander and Lucy Macneill and where she wrote her famous book, Anne of Green Gables.
- Lucy's great-grandson John Macneill and his wife Jennie live on this farmland which is open to the public by admission charge mid-May to mid-Oct. There is a museum and book store on the premises.
