Description From Owner:
- The name Rustico originated with French settler René Rassicot who came from Avranches in Normandy and moved to the head of the Wheatley River that empties into Rustico Bay.
- Early spellings for the place were Racica and Racico which gradually evolved into Rustico. Other names were Rivière Touboutouinée, Grand Rastico and Harris's Bay.
- There was a major Mi'kmaq encampment here called Tabooetooetun, 'having two outlets.'
- Robinsons Island, first called Gotteville Island and then Peters Island and McAuslin Island for its owner Peter McAusland was eventually named for owners P. W. and J. Robinson.
