Flows NE into Rustico Bay, Lot 24. Named by Samuel Holland 1765 Whitley River, probably for Thomas Whately, politician and horticulturist.
An old tradition that a man called Wheatly built a hut there and then disappeared cannot be substantiated. Bouchette 1832 Whately River.
This place first appears on Samuel Holland's map of 1765 as Whitley which later became Wheatly and then Wheatley.
