Extends into Charlottetown Harbour, Lot 48. Named by Charles Stewart for the red sandstone shoreline. On Bayfield 1846. Verrier 1734 Pte, aux boulaux; French plan 1749 Pte à la Pirogue.
In Micmac Medubunageak, presumably meaning 'steep red bank' (Rand). Rosebank is the adjacent community name.
