Prince Edward Island Tourism Region : Charlottetown
Description From Owner:
- 3 mi NW of Charlottetown. P.O. 1908-1917.
- CANADA'S BEST ICE CREAM: 12 Milky Wy, Charlottetown, PE C1E 2E2
- The fact that the company has seven outlets on tiny PEI probably says it all. If COWS ice cream isn't the best in the world, it's certainly loved by Islanders and their visitors.
- A survey by Reader's Digest readers named COWS as the best Canadian ice cream and a number of other publications rank it best in the world.
- The company started in 1983 at Cavendish and two years later dressed its staff in a fun assortment of clothing... that customers wanted to buy for themselves.
- The company obliged with T-shirts, sweat shirts and then added caps, mugs, towels, sleep wear and other items. COWS' popularity derives from the care in its manufacture and quality of ingredients.
- There's a high butterfat content (16%), fresh cream, fresh eggs, pure natural vanilla, fresh PEI berries and cocoa from Holland.
- The ice cream is mixed slowly so it contains only enough air bubbles to keep it from freezing solid. In 2006 COWS added cheese and now offers Avonlea Cloth-bound Cheddar and PEI Cheddar.
- The cheese, clothing and 32 varieties of ice cream are also available at their outlets in Whistler and Banff in Alberta, Niagara- on-the-Lake in Ontario and in summer at an outlet in Halifax.
